NC man charged after fatal crash involving Milligan University cyclists in Tennessee
A 69-year-old North Carolina man, John Benfield, faces two counts of vehicle homicide by recklessness and five counts of aggravated assault by vehicle after a car struck a Milligan University cycling group in Hampton, Tenn., around 9:30 a.m. on State Route 37/Highway 19E at Simerly Creek Road. Two cyclists, Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers, died, while others were injured and transported by air to Johnson City Medical Center as the Tennessee Highway Patrol investigates. The university confirmed the victims and expressed condolences.
