"Global Initiative Funds Pathogen Genomics Surveillance"
The World Health Organization has secured $4 million in funding from donors to establish a catalytic grant fund for organizations involved in pathogen genomic surveillance, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. The fund, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Wellcome, aims to pilot projects and create an evidence base for scaling up pathogen genomic surveillance, ultimately enabling quicker and more effective responses to prevent and address outbreaks. This initiative, led by the International Pathogen Surveillance Network, seeks to ensure equitable engagement and provide funding for LMICs to enhance competencies in pathogen genomic surveillance.
