Douglass Park Mud After Riot Fest, Neighbors Call for Restoration
Heavy rains left Riot Fest grounds at Douglass Park in North Lawndale covered in mud and standing water as teardown began. Officials say three acres will need restoration (new sod, soil prep, aeration, seeding, grading) and that the Park District and Riot Fest will assess and cover reasonable restoration costs. Some neighbors call the park “destroyed” and want the festival relocated, while others point to community benefits and note a multi-year agreement keeping Riot Fest at Douglass Park through 2027. A post-event assessment will guide long‑term improvements and potential solutions for park use.
