US officials were aware of up to four Chinese surveillance balloons, including one that flew over a US carrier strike group in the Pacific Ocean and another that crashed into the South China Sea, according to leaked intelligence documents. The reports do not include specific information about when the balloons were launched. The leaked documents were allegedly shared by a Massachusetts air national guard member who has been arrested and charged under the Espionage Act. The Pentagon and the office of the director of National Intelligence declined to comment on the Post’s reporting.
