Weight-loss drug semaglutide shows promising results in treating obesity in children and teens.

Almost half of the children who received a weekly dose of 2.4 milligrams of semaglutide for more than a year lost enough weight to no longer be considered clinically obese, according to a study presented at the European Congress on Obesity. The drug, marketed under the name Ozempic when prescribed for diabetes and Wegovy when prescribed for weight loss, is changing the face of obesity treatment. Semaglutide has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of obesity in 2021 and has an overall excellent safety profile and is generally well tolerated. However, it should only be used under clinical advice.
