Mukhtar Ansari sentenced to life for Awadhesh Rai's murder.
Gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Varanasi court for the murder of Congress leader Awadhesh Rai over 30 years ago. Rai was shot dead in front of his home in 1991, and Ansari was among the assailants. Ansari, a five-time MLA, did not contest the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election.
