YouTube Mandates Disclosure of AI-Generated Content by Creators
YouTube is now requiring creators to disclose when realistic content was made with AI, introducing a new tool in Creator Studio that will require disclosure when content that viewers could mistake for real was created with altered or synthetic media, including generative AI. The move aims to prevent viewers from being misled by synthetically-created videos, particularly as new generative AI tools make it harder to differentiate between real and fake content. The new policy targets videos using the likeness of realistic people or altering footage of real events or places, with labels appearing in the expanded description and on the video itself for sensitive topics like health or news. Enforcement measures may be considered for creators who consistently fail to use the required labels.
