A day spa in California, Zen Day Spa, is believed to be the source of a Legionnaires' disease outbreak that resulted in multiple illnesses and two deaths. The Contra Costa Health department has been investigating the spa since August 4th and has identified more than 30 recent customers who may have been exposed. The spa voluntarily closed on August 5th and remains closed under a health order. Initial water and swab samples showed high concentrations of legionella bacteria. Legionnaires' disease is a serious lung infection caused by bacteria, and symptoms can include cough, shortness of breath, fever, muscle aches, headaches, diarrhea, nausea, and confusion.
