Florida man exonerated and freed after 34 years of wrongful imprisonment.
Sidney Holmes, who was serving a 400-year prison sentence for armed robbery, has been released after more than 30 years in prison. The state of Florida decided to reinvestigate the case and found that Holmes had a plausible claim of innocence due to a misidentification by eyewitnesses. The conviction review unit found that the identification of Holmes was likely a "misidentification" due to scientifically unreliable photo and live lineup practices used by law enforcement at the time. The Broward sheriff's office deputies who performed the original investigation expressed shock at the length of Holmes' sentence.
