Former Facebook Diversity Leader Pleads Guilty to $4 Million Theft
Former Facebook executive Barbara Furlow-Smiles pleaded guilty to stealing over $4 million from the company by fraudulently using her expense account to fund a luxurious lifestyle. Furlow-Smiles linked her company credit cards to payment platforms like PayPal and Venmo, paying others for services never performed and receiving kickbacks from friends, relatives, and associates. She created inflated invoices to pay vendors, who would then return a portion of the payment to her. Sentencing is scheduled for March 19, 2024.
