UK Firms Hesitate on China Investments Amidst Slowing Growth
A survey conducted by the British Chamber of Commerce in China revealed that 60% of British firms consider the slowing Chinese economy a bigger challenge to their operations in China than the strict COVID-19 restrictions. British businesses are delaying new investments in China due to a stuttering economic recovery and are downgrading the importance of the Chinese market to their global operations. Factors such as a weaker-than-expected post-pandemic recovery, regulatory issues, geopolitical tensions, and higher investment yields in the United States have contributed to foreign investors' sour sentiment towards China. The survey also showed that over half of the companies surveyed found it more difficult to do business in China, with economic factors being the main reason.
