Off-duty NC trooper indicted in Cumberland County sheriff's captain shooting tied to love triangle
A State Highway Patrol trooper, Nekime Oxendine, was indicted for murder in the March 27 shooting of Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Captain Adam Bean outside a Hope Mills home. The case centers on alleged romantic ties between the shooter and the homeowner, Tara Whitman, who had relationships with both men. Both men were off duty at the time; Bean died from his injuries. Oxendine remains in custody with no bond ahead of an early November court appearance, while the Highway Patrol conducts an internal investigation.
