White House authorizes private firms to conduct offensive cyber operations against crime rings
A new national security memorandum creates a program under the National Coordination Center that allows vetted private security companies to be approved to conduct limited offensive cyber operations against transnational criminal organizations, with strict constitutional and legal safeguards, a $1 million bond, and oversight by Justice and Homeland Security departments, aimed at disrupting ransomware, phishing, and other cybercrime.
