China, which was once a pioneer of zero Covid, is now shrugging off the looming wave of the virus. Last year, Beijing was on the edge of a lockdown as daily case counts crept up to around 100. However, residents are now clearing out grocery stores, lining up for near-daily testing, and postponing travel out of the city due to the risk that they wouldn't be allowed back in.
