Davey Lopes, a Dodgers stalwart and one of baseball’s premier baserunners, died at age 80. A 1970s second baseman for L.A., he collected 418 stolen bases with the Dodgers, led the league in steals in 1975 and 1976, won a Gold Glove in 1978, and earned four straight All-Star selections, helping the Dodgers win the 1981 World Series; he later played for the A’s, Cubs and Astros before long coaching stints and a Brewers managing job (2000–02). Career totals include 1,671 hits in 1,812 games and 557 steals. The baseball world mourns his passing.

Davey Lopes, the speedy second baseman who anchored the Dodgers’ famed 8½-year infield and helped them win the 1981 World Series, died at 80. A four-time All-Star and 557-stolen-base threat, Lopes played 16 MLB seasons and later spent decades coaching before retiring in 2017.
