Decades later, DNA reveals identity of teen's killer with a history of crimes against women

After almost three decades, DNA evidence and forensic genealogy have helped identify the killer of Sarah Yarborough, a 16-year-old high school student who was found murdered on her school campus in 1991. The investigation involved eyewitnesses, sketches, and thousands of leads, but it wasn't until the use of genetic genealogy that a breakthrough was made. The DNA profile of the killer, found on Sarah's clothing, led investigators to the Fuller family, including a close family friend, Bill Fuller, who was initially considered a suspect. However, further investigation led to the identification of Patrick Nicholas, the brother of a registered sex offender, as the likely killer. Surveillance was conducted to obtain a DNA sample from Nicholas, and it matched the DNA evidence from the crime scene.
