Optimized Defibrillation: Life-Saving with Minimal Electricity
Researchers from Sergio Arboleda University and Georgia Institute of Technology have developed a computer model that significantly reduces the energy required for defibrillation by adjusting the duration and timing of the voltage applied. This new method, which uses 1,000 times less electricity, could eliminate the pain and tissue damage associated with current defibrillation techniques. The study highlights the potential for ultra-low-energy defibrillation by exploiting the heart's 'vulnerable window' to block irregular excitation waves.
