Stellantis Blames California for Job Cuts and Reduced SUV Production
Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler, announced that it will temporarily reduce production at its Detroit assembly plant due to California emissions regulations. The plant, which builds Jeep SUVs, will drop from three shifts to two shifts, resulting in job losses. Stellantis cited the need to manage sales of vehicles to comply with California emissions rules, which are measured on a state-by-state basis. The company is also seeking to void a 2019 emissions deal with rival automakers. Additionally, Stellantis' Toledo assembly plant in Ohio, which produces the Jeep Wrangler, will transition from an alternative work schedule to a traditional two-shift operation.
