Stellantis Blames California for Jeep Plant Layoffs
Stellantis, the automaker, is set to lay off thousands of workers at its Jeep plants in Michigan and Ohio, citing the need to comply with California emissions regulations. The company will be altering production patterns at its Detroit and Toledo assembly complexes, resulting in job losses. Stellantis claims that the layoffs are partly due to California's emissions rules, which are measured on a state-by-state basis. The move comes as Stellantis filed a petition accusing the California Air Resources Board of retaliating against the company through an "underground regulatory scheme."
