NYPD Introduces High-Tech Crimefighting Tools, Including Robotic Dogs and SnitchBOTs.
The New York Police Department has unveiled an array of high-tech security devices, including robotic dogs, security robots, and GPS launchers, to enhance public safety. The city will acquire two robot dogs for $750,000, which will be used in life-threatening situations such as bomb threats. The police department will also test a five-foot-tall robot in the Times Square subway station to deter crime. The use of remote-controlled robot dogs will be subject to the approval of the Police Department's chief of department, and neither the robotic dog nor the K5 robot will be equipped with facial recognition technology.
