The Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) has announced a strike over concerns about AI usage in the entertainment industry. During the press conference, SAG-AFTRA revealed that Hollywood studios proposed allowing background performers to be scanned and their likeness owned by the companies indefinitely, without consent or compensation. SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher emphasized the need to adapt contracts to the changing business model influenced by streaming and AI. This strike marks the first joint action between SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America since 1960.
