FAA Implements New Direct Routes to Improve Summer Travel Efficiency and Safety
The FAA has activated 169 more direct routes along the East Coast to enhance safety and prevent delays during the busy summer travel season. The new routes will save 40,000 miles of travel time annually by being shorter in distance. The upgrades will reduce complexity and redistribute volume across the national airspace system, giving air traffic controllers more flexibility during bad weather and creating fewer converging points.
