Rome Diocese Urged to Simplify Ministry Through Shared Pastoral Evaluation
Pope Leo XIV opened the Diocese of Rome's new pastoral year with a call for a shared process of pastoral evaluation, not a new program, centered on encountering Christ, building community, and serving the city. He outlined three core priorities—meeting Christ, generating community, and inhabiting and serving Rome—plus a cross-cutting focus on forming the People of God. The Pope urged a light touch on activity, insisting the Church should 'do less and do it better', listen before deciding, empower lay gifts, and foster priestly fraternity. He also announced a diocesan inquiry into Don Luigi Di Liegro and entrusted the city to Mary, Salus Populi Romani, as it looks toward 2033.
