Angels Shake Up Pitching Staff with Trio of Firings
The Los Angeles Angels fired pitching coach Mike Maddux, assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott, and bullpen coach Dom Chiti, with AA pitching coach Tim Leveque and assistant pitching coordinator Michael Wuertz stepping in as interim pitching coach and interim bullpen coach. Interim GM John Mozeliak said the changes aim to evaluate and elevate the pitching program with seven weeks left in the season. While Detmers and Soriano have had strong seasons, the Angels own MLB’s seventh-worst ERA and the worst walk rate, reflecting broader personnel limitations. Maddux, a longtime MLB pitching coach, is expected to land another coaching opportunity.
