Two Army drill sergeants from Alabama, Staff Sergeants Zachary Melton and Allen Burtram, were found dead within eight days of each other at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Melton, who had served in the Army for a decade, was found dead in his vehicle after failing to report for work. Burtram, who had served for 12 years, was also found dead on base after not showing up for work. The cause of their deaths is under investigation, and foul play is not suspected in Burtram's case. A recent study revealed that drill sergeants face high levels of stress and mental health challenges.
