Windows 11 Cloud Rebuild Adds Secure Drive Wipe and Remote IT Control
Microsoft’s Windows 11 Cloud Rebuild in preview adds two options: Remove files (standard reset) and Remove & sanitize files (secure, hardware-backed erasure before reinstall). IT admins can trigger remote Cloud Rebuilds via Recovery CSP, choosing target Windows builds and disks, with the OS image and drivers pulled from Windows Update. Sanitization is irreversible and may not guarantee a total data wipe, but it ensures local data is erased while cloud data stays safe; the feature is intended for decommissioning or reassigning devices and has specific prerequisites and power/network requirements.
