Iowans Dispose of Excess Prescription Drugs in Thousands.
Police departments in central Iowa participated in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, accepting old or unwanted prescription drugs to safely dispose of them and keep them off the streets. Over 400 local law enforcement centers and community pharmacies across Iowa have permanent take back collection boxes for those who missed the event. The initiative aims to alleviate the chance of people with addiction issues gaining access to prescription medications that could cause them harm. The Johnston Police Department collected 64 pounds of drugs on the day.
