BMW iX Achieves Impressive 608-Mile Range with Dual-Chemistry Battery
A BMW iX fitted with a prototype dual-chemistry battery developed by Our Next Energy (ONE) achieved an impressive range of 608 miles on a full charge using the European WLTP test cycle, which translates to around 516 miles using the U.S. EPA methodology. The Gemini battery, which pairs two different cell types with unique chemistries, aims to provide longer driving range while fitting within the same space as current EV battery packs. ONE claims that the Gemini battery reduces lithium and graphite use, lowering costs and environmental impact. However, the BMW iX with the dual-chemistry battery is currently not planned for production, and ONE is still in the development phase, with the next step being another prototype with an unnamed automaker.
