Farewell, Jackie: Beloved Big Bear bald eagle passes after weeks of rehab
Beloved Big Bear Valley bald eagle Jackie died after more than three weeks of intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center for severe anemia and kidney inflammation following an altercation with two subadult eagles; she received life-saving transfusions and extensive testing that ruled out lead poisoning, but her condition deteriorated and she passed away early this morning, with her remains turned over to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife as fans and the nest-cam community mourn her loss.
