TPS fate for 200,000 Salvadoran immigrants hangs in the balance
Roughly 200,000 Salvadoran immigrants in the United States face an uncertain future as the U.S. wades over renewing Temporary Protected Status; remittances to El Salvador reached about $9.9 billion last year (roughly 24% of GDP), underscoring migrants’ economic importance, while human rights concerns in El Salvador’s prisons and a past push by President Bukele for TPS extension are noted, with no public signal on a new extension.
