"Harvard University Introduces Taylor Swift Course Exploring Music, Race, and 'White Americanness'"
Harvard University will be offering a new English course in the spring of 2024 focused on Taylor Swift and her impact on fan culture, celebrity culture, adolescence, adulthood, and appropriation. The course will explore Swift's transition from country to pop music and its relation to broader political shifts in the country. Students will also study Swift's predecessors in music, such as Dolly Parton, and read literary works important to her. This is not the first college to offer a course on Taylor Swift, as Boston's Berklee College of Music already has a class covering her songwriting techniques.
