DDR5-8000 RDIMMs and Gen2 MRDIMMs Gear Up for Ultra-Bandwidth Servers

At Computex and vendor booths, Micron showcased DDR5-8000 RDIMMs (standard and 3DS) to boost server memory bandwidth and efficiency, while Samsung and others are pushing MRDIMM Gen2 to up to 12,800 MT/s—offering dramatically higher per-DIMM bandwidth but limiting capacity to about 128GB—capping the total memory footprint, with AMD’s Venice and Intel’s Diamond Rapids platforms expected to adopt the newer modules and deliver multi-channel systems approaching terabyte-per-second bandwidth (e.g., ~1.6 TB/s on a 16-channel EPYC).
