Zverev Seizes ATP No. 1 Spot in Vienna as Sinner’s Injury Opens Door
Alexander Zverev has secured the ATP world No. 1 ranking, officially overtaking Jannik Sinner on November 2. The 29-year-old German clinched the position after defeating Tallon Griekspoor in the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna. This achievement follows a dominant 2026 season where Zverev won the French Open and US Open, capitalizing on significant injury absences from rivals Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Zverev is the second German man to reach the top of the rankings, joining Boris Becker in the exclusive club of former world No. 1s. He will face British player Arthur Fery in his next match, continuing his run in the Austrian tournament.
