Nintendo to retire original Switch lineup in Europe ahead of Switch 2 launch due to EU battery rules

Nintendo will stop selling the original Switch family (Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED) in Europe by mid-February 2027 to comply with EU battery legislation; production will continue through 2026 and devices should remain widely available until the cut-off. The company will roll out revised Switch 2 consoles this summer, with replacement Joy-Con 2 controllers and the Pro Controller arriving this winter, and launch Nintendo 64 and GameCube controllers in early 2027. Battery replacement kits will be available in Europe, and Nintendo says there is no functional difference between current and revised products, though it's unclear how warranty will be affected for EU customers.
