Indian Eyedrops Linked to Drug-Resistant Germ Worry US Officials
The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has expressed concern over a highly drug-resistant bacteria, linked to eyedrops made by Indian company Global Pharma Healthcare, gaining a foothold in the US. The eyedrops have been linked to three deaths, eight cases of blindness and dozens of infections. The bacteria, pseudomonas aeruginosa, can cause infections in the blood, lungs or wounds and is proving tougher to treat in recent times because of antibiotic resistance.
