Oakland officers accused of falsifying helicopter pilot certifications in federal probe
Two Oakland Police Department officers in the Air Support Unit were charged by federal prosecutors with fabricating FAA helicopter pilot certifications, allegedly lying about mandated test flights and filing false forms; Mart and Mac pleaded not guilty to counts including FAA registration fraud, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy and were released on $25,000 bonds. The case prompted the OPD chief to pledge cooperation with federal authorities as the department remains under federal oversight, with a Nov. 30 status conference scheduled.
