Pennsylvania House expands LGBTQ+ protections.
The Pennsylvania House passed the Fairness Act, which would make it illegal to discriminate against the LGBTQ+ community in housing, workplaces, and public services. The bill adds "sexual orientation, gender identity or expression" to a law that empowers the state Human Relations Commission to investigate complaints of discrimination. However, opponents fear it could create new forms of discrimination. The bill faces an uncertain future in the Senate, where Republicans hold a majority.
