California man accused of attempting to assassinate Trump at DC dinner remains in custody
A 31-year-old California man, Cole Tomas Allen, agreed to stay in custody as his federal case advances after allegedly rushing a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton and firing a shotgun toward the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner where Donald Trump and other officials were seated; prosecutors say he traveled from Torrance, CA with multiple weapons, planned a mass shooting, and intended to target Trump, while defense lawyers question aspects of the government’s case, including whether a Secret Service agent was shot. The event was evacuated and Allen has not entered a plea.
