Starlink plans to blend direct-to-cell satellites with a dense network of femtocells to reach phones and cover remote areas, but critics say deploying billions of femtocells and navigating urban signal-blocking infrastructure is impractical. Starlink argues it can eliminate dead zones and attract customers from incumbents, while the big-three carriers remain far larger in revenue.
