Nebraska Football Legend George Darlington Dies at 87
Nebraska football stalwart George Darlington, a 30-year Husker assistant from 1973 to 2002 who helped Nebraska win three national championships and 14 conference titles, died in Lincoln at age 87. A Rutgers alum who later coached defensive ends and defensive backs (the only assistant to stay on Osborne’s staff for all 25 years), Darlington also worked at Marshall, Louisiana Tech, Southeast Missouri State and San Diego after Nebraska. He educated generations of players through Football 101, authoring a 150-page textbook and remaining a fixture in Memorial Stadium practices long after retirement.
