Meloni seeks veil ban in schools and cap on foreign students
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced two proposed laws to ban face coverings in schools and limit the number of foreign students, arguing classrooms should not feel like minority spaces. ISMU data show about 930,000 students lack Italian citizenship (roughly 11.6% of students). The government has previously floated a nationwide burqa/niqab ban, now under consideration in the lower house.
