Ancient Human Relatives: Uncovering the Oldest Evidence of Cannibalism

Scientists have discovered the oldest evidence of cannibalism among ancient human relatives, with cut marks found on a fossilized tibia dating back 1.45 million years. The incisions, likely made with stone tools, suggest that hominins were eating other hominins during this time. However, it remains unclear whether the marks indicate cannibalism between different hominin species. The tibia also showed bite marks from a big cat, but no human tooth marks were found. This finding adds to the growing body of evidence for cannibalistic behavior among early human ancestors.
