Illinois Implements Full-Day Kindergarten Statewide, Aids Grandparents
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has signed a new law mandating full-day kindergarten throughout the state by the 2027-28 school year, with the option for schools to apply for an extension. The law also establishes a task force to plan the implementation of full-day kindergarten programs, with a report due by January 2025. The decision is based on data showing that full-day kindergarten students have greater achievements in reading and math. Half-day kindergarten will still be offered for parents who request it.
