
Montana hunter survives bear attack, drives himself home for treatment
A 20-year-old Montana hunter archery hunting south of Augusta near Elk Creek and Haystack Butte was attacked by a bear. He drove himself home and was taken to Benefis Hospital by private vehicle with significant but non-life-threatening injuries. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks says the bear species is unknown and the incident is under investigation. Officials urged hunters to be vigilant around bears, particularly when handling carcasses, and to retrieve meat promptly.
