Semaglutide Shows Promise in Treating Alcohol Addiction
A study conducted by the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University suggests that semaglutide, a weight loss drug, may also help individuals struggling with alcoholism. The study, which had a small sample size of six patients, found that all participants experienced a significant reduction in symptoms of alcohol use disorder (AUD) after using semaglutide. Semaglutide belongs to a class of drugs known as glucagon-like peptide 1 agonists, which mimic the feeling of being satiated and suppress appetite. Patients have reported that taking semaglutide for weight loss or diabetes has helped them break addictions to various substances. While more research is needed, this study adds to the growing evidence of semaglutide's potential in managing cravings and addiction.
