Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife have been sentenced to 14 years in prison for corruption, accused of retaining and selling state gifts while Khan was in power. Additionally, Khan has been disqualified from holding any public office ahead of parliamentary elections. This comes after another court convicted Khan for leaking state secrets and gave him a 10-year prison sentence.
Clashes between supporters of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan and police continued for a second day as officers attempted to arrest him for failing to appear in court on graft charges. Violence was reported in major cities across Pakistan. Khan emerged from his house to meet with supporters and offered to travel to Islamabad on March 18 under his arrest warrant, but police did not accept the offer. The Islamabad High Court was expected to issue a ruling about the suspension of the arrest warrant later Wednesday.
