"Landmark Law Grants Gun Violence Victims the Right to Sue Gun Manufacturers"
Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed a new law, the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act, which allows victims of gun violence to sue gun makers. The law also bans advertising or marketing that encourages paramilitary or unlawful private militia activity, restricts advertising firearms to people under 18, and limits the kinds of imagery that can be used in ads. Gun rights activists oppose the law, arguing that it is designed to harass gun manufacturers and could lead to frivolous lawsuits. The state is prepared to defend the law in court, but its constitutionality may be challenged due to the Second Amendment. Similar laws have been adopted in seven other states.
