Judge denies co-counsel request in Alec Baldwin 'Rust' case.
The New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney, Mary Carmack-Altwies, has suffered another setback in her prosecution of Alec Baldwin for the fatal shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchings. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer denied Carmack-Altwies' request to bring on a new special prosecutor for the case and serve as co-counsel. The D.A. has lost four attempts in the case so far, including a recent attempt to block Reed's request to possess a gun in her home for self-defense. Baldwin and Reed are facing two counts of involuntary manslaughter and have pleaded not guilty. The minitrial is set to start in early May in Santa Fe.
