Hangzhou Bay Bridge Achieves First Span Closure Amid Extreme Tidal Challenges
The southern navigation channel bridge of the Hangzhou Bay Cross-Sea Railway Bridge achieved its structural closure on October 17, 2026. This milestone marks the first of three major navigation spans to be completed on the 29.2-kilometer bridge, which is part of the Nantong-Ningbo High Speed Railway. The project utilizes advanced monitoring and launching techniques to overcome the severe environmental conditions of Hangzhou Bay, including strong tides and high salinity. This closure paves the way for subsequent cable tensioning and deck construction, accelerating the completion of a key link in China's coastal high-speed rail network.
