Study ties xylitol to higher risk of heart attack and stroke
A European Society of Cardiology study found higher blood levels of the artificial sweetener xylitol are associated with increased risks of heart attack and stroke in two large cohorts (Canada and Europe), with up to 57% higher risk in Canada and 18% in Europe after adjusting for common risk factors; researchers urge more studies as xylitol is common in foods and dental products.
